Terms of Engagement
When you hire North Star Marketing (that’s me, Jo Campbell), you’re getting my full attention, experience, and care to help your business move forward. In return, I ask for open communication and a collaborative spirit — and I’ll give you the same.
These terms keep things clear for both of us.
1. Scope of Work
We’ll agree on what I’m doing for you before I start — whether that’s a specific project, a fixed-duration engagement, or an ongoing retainer. If you need anything outside the agreed scope, I’ll quote it separately before doing the work.
2. Timeframes
For fixed-duration projects or retainers, I may not narrate every move, but you can trust I’ll be hard at work in the background, keeping things on track. I generally require at least two weeks’ notice to begin new work, so I can plan my schedule and give your project the attention it deserves. If I have capacity, I may be able to start sooner.
3. Retainers
For ongoing monthly retainers, I invoice two weeks after the start date for the first two weeks’ work plus the next two weeks in advance. After that, invoices are issued fortnightly in advance.
Notice to end: 14 days’ notice is required to end any retainer or fixed-duration project early. This helps cover the time I’ve set aside for you that I otherwise could have given to other clients.
4. Payment Terms
Invoices are due 3 days from the invoice date unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing.
Late payments may incur interest of 2% per month on the overdue balance, calculated from the due date.
5. Approvals
I’ll send work for review at key stages. Two rounds of changes are included; additional changes may incur extra cost. Once something is approved, any further changes will be charged separately.
6. Cancellations
If a project is cancelled after work has begun, you’ll be invoiced for the portion completed, plus any non-refundable costs I’ve incurred on your behalf (such as ad spend, design assets, or subscriptions).
7. Communication
I aim for timely, clear communication and expect the same in return. If I need information, feedback, or approvals from you to keep things moving, delays on your side may push out delivery dates.
8. Professional Judgment
You’re hiring me for my expertise. While I’ll always listen to your ideas and feedback, my recommendations will be made in the best interest of your marketing goals. Marketing results depend on many external factors – market, timing, budget, audience behaviour, and more – and I can’t guarantee specific outcomes. I can only promise that I’ll bring my full experience, careful thinking, and practical follow-through to help you get as close as possible to your goals.
9. Limitation of Liability
North Star Marketing’s liability for any claim relating to services provided is limited to the total fees paid for those services. I won’t be held responsible for indirect, consequential, or special loss or damage of any kind.
10. Insurance
North Star Marketing does not currently hold professional indemnity insurance. All work is delivered with care, diligence, and professional experience. If required, specific insurance arrangements can be discussed and scoped as part of a project agreement.
With the practicalities in place, we can get on with making things happen.
